摘要

Conventional methods for assessing environmentally-sensitive elements (ESEs) in coal lack precise in-situ trace element resolution. This study developed a mapping approach utilizing both TESCAN Integrated Mineral Analyzer (TIMA) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to resolve ESE distributions in coals. Analyses of a Wulantuga Ge-rich coal and two Al-Ga-Li-rich coals (of varying ranks) from the North China reveal rank-controlled partitioning of F, Cr, Cd, As, Se, Sb, Pb, and U. In the Ge-rich coal, F, Cd, and U are associated with illite, whereas As and Pb occur in pyrite and organic matter. Low-rank Li-rich coal shows dual pyrite-maceral associations of Cd, As, and Pb. High-rank Li-rich coal exhibits stronger mineral affiliations: pyrite hosts Cd, As, Se, and Pb, while Cr and U concentrate in zircon and Ti-bearing minerals (anatase/ rutile, Ti-rich kaolinite). Combustion impacts are phase-dependent: organically bound elements (e.g., low-rank Cr, Sb) display higher volatility, releasing toxic emissions, while mineral-hosted elements (e.g., high-rank pyrite-hosted As/Cd) enhance residue mobility. These findings enable rank-specific strategies to optimize combustion to suppress volatile toxins and design ash stabilization for mineral-bound pollutants, to mitigate environmental and health risks. The methodology advances ESE tracking in heterogeneous coal matrices, supporting cleaner utilization practices.
